Credible Messengers

Credible Messengers are trained mentors who share lived experiences with the youth and young adults they serve, particularly those who have been impacted by the justice system. By drawing on their own experiences, Credible Messengers build trusted relationships and provide individualized guidance, advocacy, and support to help participants move from crisis toward stability, identify their goals, and define and achieve success on their own terms.

As the lead agency, Collective Action for Youth manages program referrals, determines participant eligibility, and connects each participant with a full-time Credible Messenger. CA4Y also connects participants with one of our community-based partner organizations, expanding their network of support and providing access to additional resources, services, and opportunities aligned with their individual needs and interests.

The program serves youth and young adults ages 10–35 who are currently involved with the justice system or are at increased risk of system involvement and reside within designated service areas.

Who Are Credible Messengers?

Credible Messengers are experienced, full-time mentors who provide consistent, trusted support to youth and young adults. Through shared lived experiences and meaningful relationships, they serve as mentors, advocates, and dependable guides who understand the challenges young people may face and are committed to helping them move forward.

What Do We Do?

Credible Messengers work alongside youth and families to navigate challenges, identify goals, access resources, and build pathways toward long-term stability and success. Through individualized mentorship and ongoing support, they help young people strengthen their support systems and reduce the lasting impact of justice system involvement.
